About Royal Jelly
What is Royal Jelly?
Royal Jelly is a white, creamy substance produced by young worker bees. This rich food is produced by their hypopharyngeal glands and is fed briefly to all honey bee larvae and to the queen bee through all her growth stages, for life.
By feasting solely on Royal Jelly, a queen bee will grow to ¼ inch larger than her workers, twice the weight and she will live 40 to 50 times longer. It is believed that the royal jelly protein ‘royalactin’ is responsible for aiding development of the queen’s reproductive system. Royal Jelly also enables the queen to lay up to 2000 eggs a day! She’s a very busy bee!
